The Abominable Struggle of the Soul

The Abominable Struggle of the Soul

Life, thunderous and turbulent,
Shook by thoughts, intense and vehement,
Moves me on a path, crooked and bent
To just endure this, was I sent ?

Am struggling along the way,
To see some hope, a light, a ray.
Can someone kindly say
How to live each dooming day ?

Is there a solution, off the shelf,
That can better my life, my self ?
Why does the saviour ignore my call ?
Does He quietly smile at my sorrow and fall ?

Who says nothing affects the soul ?
My thoughts and hopes are dark as coal.
Each moment these thoughts go deep in,
The soul feels an abominable pain.

Drudgingly, I pull through each day,
Weary and glum, I traverse my way.
Where is the spark that will light my soul,
To make me cheerful, happy and whole.

Thoughts keep changing, much like the weather,
But the pain leaves a niche,
That the soul will always remember.
The soul will always remember.

Struggles are a part of life they say,
But what is this life which is an incessant struggle !
Every moment in life that I really want to treasure,
Is preluded with a struggle....and that,
Doesnt give me any pleasure.

Nothing comes easy ever,
And fate never favours, never!
But they say God is with us all along.
Is this understanding of mine wrong ?

Dark clouds and storms scare me
Soothing breeze and showers delight me
But blazing storms are what that possess me
When will the calm embrace me ?
When will calm comfort me ?

Is faith just a source of strength,
To tide over the present suffering ?
Is it not a medicine to what
My noble soul is weathering ?

Will God not act when He is prayed to ,
Called upon and surrendered to ?
Do we need to suffer all that we ought to
Until we are redeemed hitherto ?

P.S - I would like to write a more cheerful and optimistic piece. Something tells me that the day is not far when I'll do that. :-)

Outsourcing, uh?

China wants our jobs, too. First it was manufacturing, and now its software! I dint know China was cheaper than India by a whole 40%. And yeah, the US really knows what to outsource/offshore to India and what to China.

Travellers' Notes

Cloud of solar gas strikes our planet. Strangely, I felt it was hotter than usual today. Does that have anything to do with this intensified solar activity ?

The Concorde is retired. A step backward ?

The news on the Solar Flare, added with the Concorde story and the AirFrame (Michael Crichton) that I read over the weekend are giving me the creeps. Dunno why but too much of flying stuff or space stuff are not for me. It makes my imagination run wild and I end up having nightmares on free falls and cosmic destruction !

I had been to the temple for the evening "seva". Amidst the clatter of the cymbals, reverberation of the percussions, echo of the bugles, the frenzy crowd and the electrifying aura, I felt the silence from within. Peace inside, resonance and clatter outside. It dint feel strange either.

Sorrow is real. God seems closer then.

They hurt, they ridicule,
They praise, they flatter.
To life, they mean a trifle,
To the soul, they do not matter.

I look into this picture
Jumbled and hazy it is.
With colors and patterns in a mixture
A Stereogram this is.

I wait for the mist to rise
To view the picture clear.
To decipher what is held in it,
I concentrate close and near.

I know there is a meaning
A reason in those patterns and lines.
I know my entire being
Is to untangle these twines.

And then in one fine moment,
The mystery clears up in full.
And before me appears
The picture, its meaning and all.

And they who cannot see thus
Are merely called Stereoblind.
And what do they call them
Who have not Him in their mind?

But they who try to eliminate
The fog that screens their eyes;
In Him who try to ruminate,
In glory and fame they rise.

Thought, Thinking, Think ..

"Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men" - Martin Luther King Jr - Today's Quote on TimesOfIndia.com.

Is India's Cost Advantage Eroding ? This article comes in the light of all the offshoring hype thats been going around. I have always liked the global media-projection that India's been getting due to the corporate strategy called BPO, but then its time to fly from cloud nine back to earth. Nothing anyway lasts for ever !

Rise of the Indian Rupee. When its hot, we want it cool.

Talking about poetry, here's one that I penned a couple of months back -

Why does nature instigate man to have dreams
Why does he delve into those unknown realms
In his dream, he moans, he sighs, he beams
'Tis all surreal, though real is how it seems

To places unvisited, his dreams take him
To lives unseen, uncontrolled by his whim
Voices wax and wane, the pictures are dim
Is this all real, his mind questions him

Are dreams mere reflections of his own thought
Or are they yearnings of what life has not brought
He's awake! But with the dream he is still besought
Musing and wondering if it happened for real or not

Reality and dreams are similar at times
Are dreams one of nature's chimes
That foretell man of what lies ahead
Of all that will happen, be done and said ?

One poetry that fascinated me in High School was Thomas Lovell Beddoes' Dream Pedlary. The first two stanzas are worth memorizing.

What is this life if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Henry Davies' Leisure tailored to suit my current context -

What a life in the profession of software,
All that I do is sit and stare.

The jobless that I am, am reminded of one more poem on folly -

As a rule, man is a fool
When its hot, he wants it cool.
When its cool, he wants it hot,
Always wanting what is not.

Kinda suits my current temparament!
